One system for the whole life of funded work

Most organisations run funding across a finder, a proposal tool, a spreadsheet, an accounting system and a folder of PDFs. The work is continuous and the tools are not, so the joins are done by people, at the end, under a deadline. AwardBase is the system where the join already exists.

What makes it an operating system rather than a tool

  • The same record carries the opportunity, the pursuit, the award, the obligations and the money. Nothing is re-keyed at a boundary.
  • Consequential decisions are made by people, against an exact version of a record, and the authority is recorded with the decision.
  • Every derived number can be traced to the records it came from. A figure with no path behind it does not render as a figure.
  • What the system does not know is shown as unknown. It never becomes a zero, a pass or a blank on the way to a screen.

The Omniscient layer

The part of the product that decides what deserves your attention, and can always explain why.

  • Brief

    In progress

A short, grounded account of where your funding work stands. Every number in it is traceable to the record it came from, and anything the system does not know is shown as not known rather than as zero.

  • My Work

    In progress

One ranked queue of what actually needs a person, in urgency bands with the reason attached — not a score nobody can explain.

  • Changed Since

    In progress

What moved on something since you last looked at it, computed over exact record versions rather than a last-modified timestamp.

  • Coverage

    In progress

What the system is and is not watching. A check that has never run is reported as never run — the one thing most software will happily show you as a pass.
